...... Do I hear Jingle Bells???? Day 2 of my chocolate calendar.... Yes, its that time of year AGAIN!!!??!

Hope everyone’s escaping the mayhem & simply enjoying the festive spirit? If your looking for some escape, I’m playing the “Live at the Lounge” stage in Glasgow’s west end, Monday 12th Dec. Swing by, its a cracking little night they run at the Doublet Bar (click on ‘Live - Shows’ above for full details).

Had a really crazy busy last 4 weeks. As I mentioned in my last blog, I’ve been playing keys & singing for an incredible Newcastle blues guitarist called Paul Rose. Below is a short film of us performing live at ‘Riverside studio’s” last month.

Hope to see you on the 12th, for the last Colin Train gig of 2011!

                                                                                                          Col=)

After Mondays show I will be putting down my accordion for a few days & instead will be playing Rhodes Piano, Hammond organ & doing Backing Vocals for virtuoso blues guitarist Paul Rose.

Paul is an incredible musician, endorsed by LSL guitars (California), Black Star Amplifiers & Seymour Duncan pick ups to name but a few. We will be filming & recording some of his material live, so should hopefully be able to put up some action clips very soon! Should be a lot of fun, the camera & production crew are the same people who put together the “BBC Transatlantic Sessions”, quite excited to see & hear the final results!

Many thanks to David from "R2" (Rock n Reel: www.rock-n-reel.co.uk) magazine for his support & encouragement!!

“Train does much for the box’s (accordion) rehab, whilst also proving that he is no slouch in the horizontal ebony & ivory arts when he moves to Hammond and Fender Rhodes..... the songs themselves are painstakingly crafted and always passionately delivered.”

I’ve just received my first couple of reviews on my brand new album!!! Available from 1st May! Col=)
‘What’s Mine’ is a belter of a track to finish on with the repetitive line “You don’t have to worry”, backed up by the driving power of the band, summing up the vibe of all ten songs. This album may not be to everyone’s taste, but perhaps those keen to judge harshly are unacquainted with the long and lonely road of the independent singer/songwriter. In my highly ill-informed opinion, Colin Train should be applauded for, above all else, believing in his dreams.

“In this world filled with over-processed, stale and sanitised rock and roll, Colin Train always sounds like a welcome breath of fresh air to me, and on his new Supertune CD, he continues along the very bold path of creating music that feels live, sounds real, and wears it's scars proudly on it's sleeve. I'm almost reminded of one who may have seen Bruce Springsteen and the E- Street band in it's early days....on the surface, you would've seen a tremendously talented bar band, able to capture the emotion in the room and reflect it back to the audience in simple yet stunning ways , but later on, in a quiet moment, you realise you've witnessed something life changing. Aside from being my favourite accordion player, Colin is also a dynamic songwriter, who inserts honesty and humility into his tunes like he has no choice but to do just that. If anything, buy this record for the little snippets of melody that will stay in your head for days and days...they've been going "round and round" in mine for even longer.” Chris Trapper :)www.christrapper.com

Just sent out the first batch of “Supertune” albums & press releases to various reviewers & radio stations. Got lots of strange looks from people at the post office as I stood trying to mail 50 identical “jiffy Bags”all at once. At least they were self - sealing envelopes, didn’t fancy having to lick all those.

It’s quite scary to think that something I’ve put blood sweat & tears (literally) into for the majority of 2010, has now flown the nest, it’s now completely out of my hands. Over to it’s future audience & the music industry to decide if they love it or hate it! Obviously I hope people like what I’ve created, but regardless, I’m really proud of this record. Having recorded & produced this all myself, I’ve had to listened to it thousands of times....... still digging it though! That’s a bit of a relief.....HA!!!

Official nation-wide album release for “Supertune” has been set for the1st of May...... bring it on!!!
Col=)

p.s I’m gigging at the RBS 6 Nations Rugby,19th of March at Murrayfield Stadium, I’m leading the pre match party on the Famous Grouse Stage.

I’ve been on a mission this week.... I’ve managed to arrange it that U.S singer Songwriter & Multi Instrumentalist Darrell Scott will come & meet some of the music students that I work with. Darrell will be appearing this coming Monday (18th October) in the ‘Music Box” @ Stevenson College Edinburgh. Darrell’s going to play some songs, talk about his fascinating & varied music career & open it out to a “Q & A” at the end.
Don’t worry you don’t have to be a student to attend, it’s open to all!!! Darrell’s currently on tour with Robert Palmer & the “Band of Joy” & is taking an afternoon off to play an informal solo show & talk about his musical career!

Click on ‘Live Shows’ (above menu bar) for more info!

Really can’t wait to meet & hear Darrell,

see you there, Col=)

News to follow very soon with album release dates & December 2010 UK tour with USA “Grammy” nominated songwriter Chris Trapper!!!!!!!!!
Had a thoroughly frustrating last 6 weeks. We encountered a few technical problems with my final mixes & masters for my new album “Supertune”....mainly in the form of rouge ‘pops’ & the occasional ‘click’!! I would have hoped to have sorted this a lot quicker but my timing has been very unfortunate..... the awesome “Waterside” studios where I’ve been finishing the album closed its doors for a refurb & relocation after we finished at the end of July........aaaaaarrrrrhhhh!!!!

Putting a positive spin on things, I’m proud to say that my new album was ‘Waterside’s’ last album to be completed in it’s old location & is its first to be completed in the new sexy barn conversion setting!

Its been worth the wait, very pleased now with how every-things sounding. “Supertune” its now finally in a jiffy bag on route to the duplicators in Austria....... “Safe travels little one”!!

Speak soon, Col=)

16/07/10

After wrestling with various album titles such as “the Sunday Sessions”, for no other reason than the fact that all rehearsals & recording sessions always seemed to fall on Sundays (although we never quite felt that it represent the up beat summer-y type album that we’ve been creating) .........So..........

The name of my new forth coming album is going to be called “Supertune”.
It’s a fun title for the album & we think that it captures the “Vibe-y” energy coming from these new songs!
It was also the name of a car garage my Mum & Dad ran in the late 70’s & after finding a box of old invoice stamps thought it would be cool to reinvent something old with something new!!

Click on the “Supertune” stamp above to watch the latest video diary showing footage of the album being mixed!

Hope you enjoy, Col=)

18/06/10
Can’t believe I’ve survived the last 10 days! I realise everyone works better when they’re faced with deadlines but trying to get all my recording finished for Monday morning so I could head straight to the studio to begin mixing has been manic to say the least!!

I’m now at “Gran’s House” studio which is situated on a farm that over looks the River Clyde in South Lanarkshire... good to be back in the Shire!

Delighted to say that all the hard work over the past 5 months is starting to pay off. Enjoying working with mix engineer Keith Bird (one of the engineers from the recent Paolo Nutini album) & between us we’ve been creating final mixes of all 11 tracks & hopefully bringing this new album to life!

As far as album titles go....I’ve been experimenting with a few working titles but thinking now that I’m hearing it in its full entirety a decision has finally been made...... to be announced very soon!

Anyway enough chatting........ back to mixing, click on my farmer image below see a very funny video diary documenting the last 2 weeks! Col=)

13/05/10
Huge thank-you to everyone who came & supported the Chris Trapper / Colin Train tour. All three gigs were jumping & incredible fun! Great music, great people, good times......... cant quite put into words what a brilliant time we had.... click on the videos below to see some of the nonsense!

Ok 4 weeks till I start mixing my 2nd album........ better get the headphones back on, Col=)

05/05/10
Ok what time is it??? That’s right..... it’s Trapper time!!!
Me & the guys had our last rehearsal last night, we’re armed & ready.... bring it on!!
I'm performing 3 Scottish dates (7th, 8th & 9th May) with my all time song writing hero;

Fri 7th May - Dumfries
Sat 8th May - Glasgow
Sun 9th May - Edinburgh

Chris Trapper (Boston based, "Grammy" nominated singer song writer & lead singer 0f cult USA band "the Push Stars") will be gracing UK soil for his first ever Scottish tour!

There's only 3 dates, so if you're free grab the opportunity to see an amazing artist & song writing legend (Movie soundtracks include, Devil Wears Prada, Me Myself & Irene, Something About Mary, August Rush, etc, etc)!

I will be opening up the shows with songs from my debut album "Days for the Driven" joined on stage by the talented Alan Train - Bass & vocals, Chris Waite - Acoustic Guitar, Al Pugh - Drums & Chris Pugh - Trombone.  Chris Trapper will then take to the stage & perform an acoustic set, then myself & the band will accompany him for the finale of his gig performing all the hits.

Great night of melodic, up lifting songs, hope to see you at one the shows,

Col=)

**If you're not sure who Chris Trapper is watch this short video:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ug1Zub75WAM

28/02/10
Both excited & honoured to announce an incredible start to this years touring schedule!!!
Scottish singer song writer Colin Train, with his band, will proudly support Chris Trapper on his Scottish tour. Colin & the guys will also be providing Chris with some accompaniment for the finale of his acoustic shows. 7th, 8th & 9th May....check out “Live-Shows” for more info!

Chris Trapper's songs have been winning awards as well as the hearts of devoted listeners ever since his arrival on the Boston music scene in 1995. He is most widely known as the front man for the nationally acclaimed pop/rock band The Push Stars, whose "honest, heartfelt songs with timeless melodies" were described as "the kind of music that songwriters love" by Rob Thomas of Matchbox Twenty.

With The Push Stars, Chris has written material for four studio albums and six self-produced discs. Several of his songs have been picked up for major motion picture soundtracks including "There's Something About Mary", "Me Myself & Irene" & "The Devil Wears Prada"  and for television shows such as Privileged, Pepper Dennis, ER, and Malcolm in the Middle. His 2002 solo project "Songs from the Drive-In" showcased "his formidable storytelling talents," according to the Boston Phoenix.*

In 2003 Chris Trapper received a prestigious SOCAN award (Canadian songwriters and music publishers) for his song writing contribution to Great Big Sea/Sea of No Cares album.  In 2008 his song "This Time" featured on GRAMMY Nominated Soundtrack for WARNER BROS Film AUGUST RUSH. For further information visit:  www.christrapper.com

I’ll keep you posted on tour info & where to buy tickets, for the mean time, back to working on the forth coming new album, speak soon, Col=)

11/02/10
Hope everyone's well?
Got the cast off my hand, so I can play piano using both hands again (some say it doesn’t make any improvement!!). Trying to keep up the recording pace for the new album, the fact I’ve had to run out & buy a bigger hard drive (because I ran out of space) has got to be a sign of progress? It is in my eyes anyway......ha!

Making plans for some live shows, dates to be announced very soon....don’t want to get too excited but if this pulls off we’ve got some amazing gigs coming your way..... watch this space!!

For the mean time, click on the picture for another video diary update!

                    Col=)

20/01/10
The process of recording album number 2 motors on....very excited!!
Technical issues so far being my trusty car has died at 200,000 miles & I’ve broke a bone in my left hand whilst snowboarding last week at Glen Shee....Oops! The ironic thing is that because my hand is in a cast I can’t legally drive anyway so who cares about the car....ha!!

(Click on the picture left for new video!!)
Put together a small video diary of Sunday nights rehearsal with Alan, Coco, Chris & Al, getting some good sounds, back to the recording studio this weekend to record 3 more songs..... BRING IT ON!! Hope you enjoy, Col=)

4 WEEKS TILL CHRISTMAS!!
I can’t lie, I’m a total sucker for the Christmas cheer, love it!
Sorry for the delay in posting a recent up date, been busy writing & rehearsing new material!
Really feeling inspired (don’t worry, there’s no Xmas songs!!!), seems crazy to start planning a new album since “Days for the Driven” still feels relatively new but if we’re planning an early summer release 2010, I’ve got a lot of work ahead of me!!

This time round I have the luxury of producing the new album with my mighty “crack - commando” troubadours (Alan Train - Elec & Pedal Steel guitar, Chris Waite - Acoustic Guitar, Colin Cunningham - Bass, Al Pugh - Kit & Chris Pugh - Keys), we’ve been jamming noises from our secret testing bunker....... great fun!

Be posting a video diary of some of our pre production sessions soon,

keep out the puddles, Col=)
